經過一陣子長考後，馬刺隊中鋒「石佛」鄧肯11日宣布退休，結束19年NBA職籃生涯。鄧肯曾幫助馬刺隊拿下5次NBA總冠軍，在他效力期間，馬刺戰績1072勝438敗、勝率7成10，在北美4大職業運動MLB、NBA、NFL、NHL無人能出其右。而他退休後，下個球季將由保羅蓋索扛下其位置。
鄧肯是1997年的NBA選秀狀元，從他加盟後馬刺連續19年打進季後賽，他也成了史上唯一能在不同的10年內（1999、2003、2007、2009、2014年），都幫助母隊贏得總冠軍的球員。在這19年內馬刺有17個球季至少拿下50勝，每季的勝率都在6成以上，可見他的貢獻有多大。
鄧肯共有15次入選NBA最佳陣容，這個紀錄並列史上第1位；而15次入選NBA最佳防守陣容則為史上最多，可見他在場上的防守功力。他在1998年即獲選「年度最佳新秀」，並於2002、2003年連莊例行賽MVP（最有價值球員）；另外還有3次季後賽MVP（1999、2003、2005年）入袋，並且15度入選NBA全明星賽。
19年NBA生涯鄧肯總共出賽1392場、累計47368分鐘。總得分26496分、籃板15091個、火鍋3020次、助攻4225次；生涯有841次單場「雙十」演出，排名NBA史上第5位。
